Untitled
This photo installation project is based on an illustration from the book, "van de wtnementheyt des vrouwelijken geslachts" by Johan van Beverwijck, Dordrecht (Holland) 1639... The image and his little rhyme indicated that women's work is in the home and men's is out. Hence, the woman inside the house spinning and the men on the field. The woman standing on the tortoise symbolizes woman at home, since the tortoise carries its house. This is according to "Paragons of Virtue," the book by Wayne Franits.
