System 1 installation view
"System 1" (motor, plaster wall thorns, guitar string, wooden box lid) is the first in a series of installations I am working on that involve moving mechanisms, sound, and items embedded and "growing" from walls. They can be site- specific. This photo shows a special moment when sunlight coming through a distant skylight at a specific angle - and being refracted by the curved skylight glass - hits the installation, adding another source of light and shadow. This conveniently occurred during open studios on October 28, 4:26PM.
Sound is an important aspect, and a motivation for making the piece. I will set up a microphone and speaker so that the sound of the guitar string scraping on the wall thorn and resonating in the wooden box lid will be more apparent. When the room is quiet, it is easy to hear the sound.
